Please add my voice to the outcry against canceling the finest program on the WFCR schedule, Valley Folk. The Pioneer Valley is well known for its devotion to folk music and has been home to some of the country's most talented and prominent folk artists -- Buffy Sainte-Marie, Taj Mahal, Dar Williams, Julius Lester, Charlie King, Bob Blue, Cordelia's Dad, The Nields, Molly Scott, Daithe Sproule, Salamander Crossing - the list goes on and on. As an organizer of music events in the Valley for more than 12 years I can tell you that Valley Folk has played a very important role in stimulating the region's folk phenomenon.
Susan Forbes Hansen truly creates a great show - always well-designed, intelligent, entertaining and original. She has built a large and loyal following, despite the fact that Valley Folk has been aired on Saturday nights when many folk enthusiasts are attending concerts.
Good jazz and classical music can be heard from any number of sources. Please don't kill the only Western Massachusetts radio program paying tribute to the area's rich folk heritage, and one that is a work of art in its own right.
