Mission Statement of the WFCR Democracy Task Force

The WFCR Democracy Task Force is a group of WFCR listeners whose purpose is to contribute to making WFCR a lively and interesting radio station, dedicated to carrying out its stated mission by involving and encouraging the active participation of the WFCR listening community.

Our Goals:

We believe that two definite steps toward this participation would be:

(1) Establishing the equivalent of a Community Advisory Board, described by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting as openly, enthusiastically, and vigorously welcoming input from the public, holding well publicized open meetings, making minutes of its meetings public, and providing a vehicle for effective community input; and

(2) Holding quarterly meetings open to the public, in which listeners could bring forward to the WFCR staff their concerns and suggestions, and the staff could explain the station's goals and operation to the public, and solicit public support.

We view these as bringing an increased spirit of Democracy to WFCR, and increasing the sense of accountability to its listeners rightly expected of a Public Radio station. We further expect that these steps will bring improvements to the quality and relevance of programming and will result in a more loyal and supportive listenership.
